I chose this video because Barack Obama is a huge icon and leader that people of my color are inspired by. Many people within communities like mine look up to a powerful mind in which he has. In this particular video he emphasizes towards future leaders of America what it is like to lead. He gives personal feedback based on his on experience of what he thinks as himself as a leader and how much he wants to grow. He also highlights the fact that we would be willing to “do whatever possible to help others.”

Nick Saban will go down as on of the greatest college football coaches, and that is a fact despite your feelings about Alabama. This video clip gives insight into one of the many things that makes him such a great leader. He talks about how important second chances are when dealing with student athletes. The media and fans are quick to dismiss athletes at their first mistake, and want the player kicked off the team. Saban passionately explains how important it is to allow players to learn from their mistakes without taking away the one chance they may have to better their lives. He references Muhsin Muhammad as an example of this, and its a great story.

Vaira Vike-Freiberga was one of the presidents of Latvia, she has always been mentioned as one of the best presidents Latvia has ever had and that is mainly because, she has always been a great motivator, and probably, the biggest patriot of our country, which is very important for a small country, such as ours. She has always been a big supporter of the fact, that Latvian people should be proud of their identity, and she shows it very clearly in this TEDxRiga talk. I love her and everything she stands up for. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JT26gr3I1Vc

    Jonathan Toews, aka Captain serious.
I chose this clip because it exemplifies why Jonathan Toews is such a great leader and peak performer. He is not only highly regarded as a great leader by his teammates but also the entire Chicago Black Hawks organization. The Black Hawks entrusted him with the responsibility to lead and be the face of their franchise at just twenty years old. Toews leads his team in many ways and is the epitome of how captains should conduct themselves on and off the ice. He is the first person his teammates look to for guidance when times are tough and the first person to take the blame when the team is struggling. He is always looking for ways to be a better leader so that he can be the best for the team. Toews always puts the team before himself and this is seen in all of the post game interviews when he gives credit to all of his teammates for how well they played instead of taking all the credit for himself.

The video I chose is a bit unusual (but not any less powerful or inspiring), as it is a clip from Charlie Chaplin’s film “The Great Dictator.” While it may not be a “real” example, I still believe it’s something deeply rooted in reality due to the context of the film. It was released in 1940, right when WW2 was in full swing and Hitler’s peak of his deplorable and disgusting reign over Germany. This movie, and especially this clip, serves as a commentary and condemnation of the rule of dictators, and also as sort of a rallying cry to the rest of the world to rise up against this evil type of leadership.

It was significant as a message to the United States as well, as the U.S. had not entered the fray at the time it was released, and had some influence in shaping the public’s perception of the dictatorships in Europe.

The video I chose is Allen iverson receiving the 2001 NBA mvp award. This video means alot to me, growing up I was a fan of iverson and when he went through an unfortunate setback in his life I could relate. Living in Los Angeles it’s hard to stay away from confrontation. JversoI was given a second chance at his dream and be made the most of it, he became one of the most influential players in the NBA and though he was a physically dominating presence he still dominated games with his skill speed and quickness he wws virtually unguardable he led his team to the nba finals and he became the NBA Mvp an award given to the most valuable player , iverson thanked many for this award most importantly his teammates though he was receiving the award he acknowledged his team was the reason for his success, iverson lead by example with heart and passion a true spirit of a leader

David Beckham is an iconic leader. He has inspired people for all walks of life, both young and old. Beckham has always been a leader, not only on the field by being the captain of his teams but off the field as well. A true example in lending a helping hand when needed. As you’ll see in the video towards the end of the game all the players of England lost hope because in their mind they had lost. Throughout the game he took 10 free kicks, and missed all 10 of them. In the end he was given 1 more chance to do a free kick and instead of letting those 10 missed ones get to him and giving the kick away to someone else, he instead had the confidence to try again and not give up. As a result he ended up scoring and qualifying England for the tournament.

Michelle Obama is an iconic woman in pop culture, modern history and politics. She has inspired many – not just women, but men – by her remarkable words, speeches and acts of kindness. This clip is so relevant to the world we are living in at the moment. She spoke what was real to her in her time in the White House as First Lady of the United States of America, and how she taught her children, ‘when they go low, we go high’. You do not stoop down to other peoples’ levels when they are bullying you. This was a huge turning point and helped me in my own life.

    Leadership capacities

From the debut in the Primera Division on 2 October 1999 against Real Valladolid, the leadership capacities of Puyol also emerge. In 2004, he became captain – a fighter boss, but a shy, controlled fighter boss with much insight, who brought out the best in his teammates. He also gets a new nickname: Capità (Captain). Hard in the field, civilized in the catabomes of Camp Nou.

    Characteristics

Carles Puyol is corrosive and aggressive. A football player who plays equally well in the positions of the central and flank defender. Professionalism, selfless play, stability and dedication to the club – all this made the Spaniard one of the most popular fans of real football players. “Barcelona” has a reliable football player whose tactical skills help him avoid yellow cards, and a good main game makes Carles a useful player in the penalty area.

    Qualities

Carles Puyol played through Barcelona’s golden era and is one of the club’s most decorated players. But he was more than just a player.Carles Puyol respected opponents and appreciated them too. He was an exceptional tackler and leader of men, he led the team by example and spirit. A true legend.

Lebron James is one of the best NBA players of all time. He is not only a basketball player, but a great leader, philanthropist, investor and inspiration to so many. In this interview he mentions holding himself to a standard that is so much higher than the average person. This mentality is similar to so many other peak performers in any field. He also mentions surrounding himself with coaches, friends and teammates that have that same fire in their stomach, a fire that drives personal and team progress. On a daily basis he attempts to be better than the day before. He will go down as one of the greatest to ever play the game, as well as a hero in many communities.

I’m William Elmgren and I chose this clip because Kobe talks about no matter how bad you may want something, you’re going to have to put in countless amount of hours in order to get the results you know you’re capable of. If you put in all of your effort into something, you should have the outcome that you worked tirelessly for day in and day out. If you feel like you didn’t accomplish what you feel you should’ve, can you either give up, or you can keep working but work two times as hard until you’re sastisfied with the outcome.

The person that I chose to show case is the memorable Steve Jobs. We all know about his creations and how much they have advanced our modern life. But many of us don’t know how he really started out. A leader is not always the most successful person from the start, it’s someone who has learned to build upon themselves. Sometimes you need to lead yourself first into the direction you think is right. Just because someone else has a plan for you, it doesn’t mean you can’t find your own path and pave it for others to follow. This might not even one of Steve’s best speeches, but it gives us a perspective that anyone can lead themselves to greatness even from hard situations.

  • Samantha Saccomen

https://youtu.be/gSDJ-HffHrU My name is Samantha Saccomen and I decided to post a video on my favorite NBA player James Harden. James Harden continues to prove his extreme work ethic to become one of the greatest player in the NBA. He is always looking to expand his set of moves. However, I choose a compilation video on his famous step back he has perfected. Harden is a great leader on the court and worked hard to achieve many goals in the past year. I am interested to see what he has in the bag this year. I’m waiting for my home team to take over this year.

I chose this video of Misty May-Treanor because I believe a great deal of leadership skills are shown. She talks within the first minute of the interview about how important it is to give back to the community because she is so passionate for the game. A true leader will spread their knowledge as much as possible, just like what Misty May does with all of her volleyball clinics. About two minutes in, she also talks about how the game is growing and developing more physical players. She acknowledges her competitors and is determined to stay on top of developing herself along with the game to continue her success in volleyball. A leader has this same determination to be the best of the best while still respecting competitors. These qualities are exactly what makes Misty May a good leader.

My name is Lieua Nick and the video I chose is about Elizabeth Peratrovich. She was a Tlingit Alaska Native who made a movement for Civil Rights Acts in support of the equality of Alaska Natives. She was the civil rights activist who pushed the passage of the Alaska Anti – Discrimination Act of 1945. I chose this video of Elizabeth Peratrovich of why it is relevant is that it can tell more about why she made the movement for Alaska Natives. The Alaska Legislature assigned February 16 as Elizabeth Peratrovich in honor of her hard work to remove discrimination and bring equal rights to Alaska in 1988. She has many awards, monuments, and buildings named in honor of her, including the Elizabeth Peratrovich Award.
