I choose my favorite soccer player and the best of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo. I love Cristiano Ronaldo because he has such a great work ethic and players recognize it. Players push themselves because he trains so much. "Cristiano always stopped in the gym after training: for him it is an obsession and, being the best in everything, he always arrived at work early. When the training was set for nine in the morning I arrived at eight and he was already there. Even if I arrived at 7:30 he was already there. I began to ask myself, ‘How can I get rid of this guy?’ So one day I arrived at six but he was already there! Sleepy, but he was there.", these are words from Carlos Tevez, a striker who player alongside Cristiano at Manchester United for 2 years. Ronaldo checks off most if not all of the boxes that make a leader. One of my favorite moments that displayed his leadership was in the Euro 2016 Final against the favorites, France. Ronaldo was ruled out in the first half due to a knee injury. He left the pitch crying. However, the whole game he spent it alongside the coach, Fernando Santos. Cristiano showed a lot of passion during that time. Also, they played Poland in the same tournament and had a penalty shootout. Ronaldo encouraged veteran Joao Moutinho to take a penalty because he was nervous.

Someone who I believe is a highly inspirational leader is Russell Westbrook. He played for the Oklahoma City Thunder for 11 years, and averaged a triple double three years in a row. Every time this player walks onto the court, his positive energy is contagious, and he makes sure that his teammates are involved. He is so passionate about the city that he's representing, as he is a positive influence in the surrounding community. Another great aspect that makes him one of the best leaders is his dedication. On April 3, 2019, Westbrook recorded 20 points, 20 rebounds, and 21 assists in the Thunder's victory over the Lakers. This man has become one of the faces of the NBA because it seems like he only gets better. Throughout the league, he is heavily respected for being someone who is not afraid to give 110% of his effort every single game. His ability to get something done when he knows it needs to be done is eventually going to lead him to a championship before his career expires.

For my video I decided to choose Tom Brady, Quarterback of the New England Patriots. I decided to choose Tom Brady because he has become almost decidedly the greatest quarterback of all time in the NFL. I also chose Tom Brady because of his ability to improve his teammates on the field. Football is one of the most team oriented sports around and every player has a specific job to do every play. Tom Brady has juice that has kept him playing into his early 40's and his energy forces his teammates to get better at their individual duties every day. Tom Brady has become one of the best players in the NFL and he lacks the athletic ability of almost every other quarterback in the NFL. His ability to prepare and execute in clutch moments has awarded him as being called one of the best leaders in sports.

“I promise you one thing a lot of good will come out of this you have never seen any player in the entire country play as hard as I will play the rest of the season and you’ve never seen someone push the rest of team as hard as I will push everybody for the rest of the season and you’ve never seen a team play harder than we will the rest of the season.”- Tim Tebow. I believe Tim Tebow is a great inspirational athlete both on the field where he shows great grit and determination to be the best, but also off of the field where he opens up and shows you who Tim Tebow is. In the world of sports there are so many great leaders, so how can you choose just one? The quote above is from a postgame speech from Tim Tebow after suffering a loss that made what was once thought to be a championship caliber Florida Gators football team, into a team that had to win the remaining games just to get the opportunity to compete for a national championship. I believe that in this quote he defines a leader. Someone who is willing to outwork the rest of the team, and at the same time push the team to reach their peak performance. Being a coach, I believe that it is vital to have someone like this so that day in and day out people don't become complacent with the current success. However, this is not the only reason why Tim Tebow was a leader. Being a firm believe in God Tim Tebow was not shy at letting people know. Tim Tebow is such a great leader because he wasn't afraid to be different, he knew who he was and never changed his identity even when people started asking questions. Once he got to the NFL nothing had changed as the dreaded "Tebow Time" would soon boom around the league. "Tebow Time" was created because Tim Tebow would suddenly turn the game around and give his team a chance to win. This was only done by leading his team for the full game and being able to have his teammates believe in him and look to him as a leader.

The most inspirational athlete to me is Ray Lewis. He used his hardships to become one of the most powerful and motivational linebackers of all time. From his powerful speeches about working hard to the passion he had in his dance coming out of the tunnel, Ray Lewis inspires me to go for my goals and not give up. I chose this video because it reminds me that pain is only temporary and at the other side of my pain is my promise. https://youtu.be/W8hVRUCizGk

One of the athletes that is a leader to me is Abby Wambach. I have always been involved in soccer since I was young and I grew up watching Abby. The reason that I enjoyed watching her so much was because she was a phenomenal soccer player and she holds the record for most goals in her career for both men and women at 184 goals. Not only was she a great soccer player but she is also an amazing person off of the soccer field. Over the course of history, women have fought for equal pay everywhere but especially in sports. The US Woman's National Team (USWNT) have filed an equal pay law suit against the U.S. Soccer Federation and Abby fully supports this action and even wrote a book called "Wolfpack" encouraging women to speak out. Abby to me also showed me to fight for my dreams no matter how hard it may be because she fought for what she wanted and earned 2 gold medals along with a FIFA world cup. She also paved the way for several other soccer stars such as Tobin Heath, Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan, and Carli Loyd, all whom are inspiring in their own ways. Abby Wamback is my idol because she showed me that anything can be possible no matter the odds.

I believe Derek Jeter is an amazing athlete as well as a great leader because he has succeeded in the MLB and has been able to retire. I am not a fan of the Yankees, but I have recognized his ability to gain the crowds attention, especially towards the end of his career. In this video, he describes his top 10 rules to be successful. Due to his position as an athlete and the league he playe for, he is a credible source on success. He played for the highest level of baseball. Jeter begins his talk by introducing that to be successful, one must prioritize. This initial rule would be on my list as well because for someone to be the best and succeed in what they do, they need to make it priority and constantly work on it. To be a leader, one must establish that they need to be able to motivate others to want to be in their position... to motivate them to work hard to get there. The next step is to work harder than other people. To succeed, you need to be the best at what you do. To be the best, you need to work hard and be diligent during practice. The rest of Jeter's rules coincide with our list of the 10 Qualities of Effective Leadership in Sports. Confidence is beneficial becuase it draws people to admire you and to show you know what you are doing wihtout being prideful. The belief that "the stronger you are mentally, the better you will perform" has allowed Jeter to succeed. This can also go along with being inspired by others because you can be successful, but you should not stop growing. Continue to prosper and learn from others.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHpACV3esmE

This speech was more than just a football game speech. It was a true life speech. William Hollis talks about how the battle on the field is only a small fight compared to the large fight we all call life. This speech touched me in so many ways. I have been through a lot and it gave me more motivation to be stronger and made me feel like I had power to change my life. We all must learn to always be grateful no matter the outcome of any situation we face in our lives. Every man faces two types of battles in their life, the man in front of them and the man inside of them. I think William Hollis does a good job of delivering this message and making everyone believe what he is saying.

I picked Cristiano Ronaldo for this project. The reason is that Cristiano is an exceptional soccer player that is guaranteed to leave his mark. But besides being one of the best players out there, he is also a great leader, Cristiano knows when to push his teammates when the team needs that push. During the Euro finals Cristiano suffered an injury that would sideline him for the rest of the game, being one of the only trophies that he hasn't conquered, Cristiano decided to stay on the sideline limping and coaching his national team of Portugal. After the game he delivers a great speech recognizing everybody on the campaign as they ended up being victorious as the underdogs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnespGAwP_Q

I decided to pick Steve Kerr for my leadership presentation. Knowing that you love the Chicago bulls I'm sure you are very familiar with him during his playing days. I decided to talk about him and how he changed the way the Warriors worked when he became a coach. I picked him just because of his attitude towards coaching. I have rarely seen many coaches that have such a good relationship with their players as Steve Kerr does. He cultivates a sense of respect through friendship and understanding, rather than just yelling at the players. He is very encouraging as seen in the video, and he even lets Stephen Curry know where the real value to his efficiency is. This type of leadership makes players desire to work hard for you. They do not do this out of fear or punishment. Even though Steve Kerr was never a Bulls leader, he changed the way that the Warriors worked to lead them to three championship rings. Although the team had good talent, he coached and lead them to these titles nonetheless.

I decided to pick Steve Kerr for my leadership presentation. Knowing that you love the Chicago bulls I’m sure you are very familiar with him during his playing days.
