I picked this Kobe Bryant video because I found his reflections on his journey and mindset to be very insightful. It's not only about basketball; it's also about how far you're willing to go for something that you truly care about. He talks about how, despite obstacles and disappointments, he picked a goal early in life and gave it his best. I genuinely respect that degree of dedication. Kobe didn't just say that he wanted to be great; he demonstrated it by working hard every day, whether or not anyone was watching.

His ability to hold himself to a high level and expect the same of people around him is what I find most impressive about his effectiveness as a leader. If he thought it would help people get better, he was prepared to confront them. Instead of avoiding pressure, he welcomed it. Watching this movie made me think about my own goals and motivated me to improve my attitude. What inspires me so much about Kobe is his path, which demonstrates that genuine leadership is shown by deeds rather than just words. ——-Vanessa Saidu

  • Gavin Durrant

    This is Gavin Durrant!

The video I chose that to me that I find motivating and encouraging from a leader comes from head coach, Dan Campbell during the Detroit Lions training camp.

Coach Campbell is very well respected throughout the football world because of his work ethic and the great leader he is. So often, I see leaders who are passive, who act more like managers. Managers are nit picky and often sit back and watch others do the work. However a leader will step in and take an active approach, motivating their team to action. Dan Campbell is a great example of what it means to be a leader and its put on display in this video.

Here we see him doing up downs with the entire team at the beginning of practice. I've never seen a coach who does that. To me, the mentality behind why he does this is to show that he is all in and will give his best effort for the team. Doing drills with them builds trust and shows his players that he genuinely cares. Such a simple action is a great demonstration of what it means to be a leader. This video was encouraging and motivating to me!

  • Kaitlyn Warren

My name is Kaitlyn Warren, and the motivational leader I chose is Martin Luther King Jr. and I included a clip of his famous "I Have A Dream" speech.

I chose this clip of his speech because he emphasizes that everyone in this world is equal, no matter their height, age, gender, skin color, education level, bloodline, etc. One of the reasons I believe he is a motivational leader is firstly, the crowd he has when he delivers his speech. The crowd he attracted was massive because so many people found his ideas inspirational, and it gave people hope for the future that everyone can live in peace as one. What made him an effective leader was his willingness to go in front of many crowds that agreed and disagreed with his ideas, and fight for the people who didn't have a voice. He was aware that what he was doing would put him in danger and could change everything about the world that was known, yet he pursued greater change and truly believed everyone could live in harmony. Because he was so confident in his ideas, it made everyone else confident that what he was fighting for could actually become a reality. He gave people hope and something to fight for, and that alone unified so many people. He was a leader because he brought everyone together in ways people only dreamed of, despite the nature of how the world was at that time. The last thing that proves he was truly a motivational leader was, unfortunately, his assassination. People against his ideas saw him as a threat because they did not want things to change. He wouldn't have been a threat to others if his ideas hadn't attracted the majority of the U.S.; therefore, his assassin, James Earl Ray, executed him because he thought that if Martin was gone, his ideas wouldn't have come to action. However, even after Martin's death, his dreams eventually did become reality and have shaped the world we live in today. His ideas and his actions are still talked about and appreciated today, because he was brave enough to stand up and fight for the equality that was needed.

  • Kate Kondra

My name is Kate Kondra, and the motivational leader is the new volleyball captain that was picked in the movie "Miracle Season". I have attached the clip from the movie where they needed to find a new caption to take place of their teammate that passed away.

I picked this clip from the movie because it really showed me that anyone can step up and become a great leader to help the team succeed. With Caroline passing away in a car accident while on the way to visit her mom who had cancer, it really hurt their team. Not only did they lose a really good player, but they also lost the strongest leader on their team. It was heart breaking not only to the team but also to the community. When they had their first season back it wasn't what they were expecting. The coach had to make a very big choice on choosing the next caption to fill Carolines shoes. Coach Brez only knew it was right to have Carolines best friend Kelley take the caption position.

Kelley sets off a great example of what it means to be a true leader. She is able to fill the shoes of her best friend and carry on the legacy of "Live like Line". She was able to lead her team into winning the nation championship at the end of the season. With going through such a hard time for not only her but also the community she was able to use it as something good. And to me this shows that just because something tragic happens doesn't mean good can't come out of it. Always be a leader because you never know when you can make a big difference for your friends and also your community. The Miracle Season

  • Parker Smith

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSosZxJAdtM
My name is Parker Smith. One of my favorite leaders whom I find motivating is Scottie Scheffler. Along with being the number one golfer in the world, Scheffler is a humble family man and a strong man of faith. I chose this clip because Scottie speaks about the things he values most in life, faith and family, which are really inspiring. As a professional golfer, people may expect Scheffler's life to be defined by his golf performances. Scheffler constantly speaks about how his identity is in his faith and not in golf. Although he works hard at his craft, Scheffler realizes there are more important things in life than his job.

I believe Scottie Scheffler's humble demeanor and calm presence make him an effective leader. Although his accolades could allow him to think he is better than others or act cocky, Scheffler rarely even has a big reaction to winning. I have always looked up to servant leaders because they lead by their actions and care for others. Scheffler is not the loudest leader or someone people may even see as a leader. However, he is a leader in the way he treats and cares for his family and the way he displays his faith. As a man of faith myself, I look up to Scheffler in the way he boldly speaks about his faith and lives out a life of faith above career. I want to pursue a career with the gifts I was given without making my career my identity.

  • Madison Orr

My name is Madison Orr and the motivational leader that I chose was Leigh Anne Tuohy from the movie "The Blind Side." This movie is based on a true story as most of us know who Michael Oher is and how he played for the NFL. Michael Oher was not just your typical athlete that got drafted into the NFL. He was given a chance by the Tuohy family, but specifically Leigh Anne Tuohy.

She took Michael into her family as one of her own and continued to raise him throughout high school. She gave Michael a chance and a way out of the life he was living. Michael was homeless on the street and had a rough upbringing always in foster homes and no stable environment. This woman is motivational and inspiring because she took a stand to be a leader to Michael and give him a life he never thought was possible. She sets the example to others to be kind because you never know what others are going through or their background. She got a lot of backlash for bringing in Michael into her home because of his race and where he came from, but she never thought about any of that. She thought about making a difference in someone's life for the better.

The clip I attached are a few clips from the movie that really just show who she is as a leader and how impactful she was to Michael. She showed selflessness, kindness, and empathy. All these characteristics made her a leader.

  • Jordyn Skoglund

My name is Jordyn Skoglund. The video I choose showcases Michael Jordan who I feel is a strong leader. I choose this clip because of how motivating and inspiring it is. Michael Jordan talks about the many time throughout his career he failed, and he even knows specific numbers. He states he was trusted with the game winning shot 26 times and missed, he has missed over 9000 shots in his career, and lost over 300 games. What makes this video so motivating is that through all this failure he shares this is why he succeeded by failing over & over again. It takes a great leader to admit that. When we think of Michael Jordan we think of all the times he succeeded and his legendary basketball career. Many people dream of being even a fraction of as good as he was. We don't think of the times he failed or fell short, but Jordan himself does which he shows us in this video. He is aiming to remind us he's not perfect and he had to work very hard to be the best, but through this he failed many times. He to made mistakes and fell short at times, but what made him so great is he didn't give up. He used every time he failed to push himself to succeed. This is what led to him being a great player and leader. His mindset set him apart from others and made him a very effective leader. He was trusted by his teammates and even though he did fail at times and miss that winning shot; he was able to get back up and try again. That is what a strong leader does.

  • Laney Haines

My name is Laney Haines. I chose a clip of Tim Tebow because he has always been an inspirational leader to me due to his boldness in his faith. The clip I chose is of Tebow giving his “Promise Speech.” This specific speech stood out because it highlights his passion, not just for the game, but for the principles he lives by. His enthusiasm and dedication are evident throughout the speech. The clip shows that he cares about his teammates and the standards he sets, holding himself accountable to the highest expectations and never asking more of others than he expects of himself.

Tim Tebow demonstrates key leadership qualities in this clip. In my opinion, his passion, commitment, accountability, and authenticity make him an effective leader. He also demonstrates empathy, a focus on team success, and the ability to model the behavior he expects. I believe that by consistently living according to his values and leading by example, he is able to inspire trust and motivate those around him to strive for their best. All of these qualities make him a highly effective and inspiring leader.

  • teague prewit

My name is Teague Prewit. The leader I chose, and I think has a great effect on people is JJ Watt. JJ has been not only an excellent leader in his time playing football, but also an outstanding role model to younger athletes and fellow athletes of his. Along with being resilient, courageous, and powerful, JJ was always striving to be the best, and at one point he was. He always talked about how he was always counted out but never let that stop him. When drafted to the Texans, he was booed and made it his duty and goal to prove to the city of Houston that drafting him would not be a mistake, but the booing would be. All this fueled JJ to become who he was and is. The reason he is a great leader is because when he spoke, teammates tended to listen and follow him. His contagious winning attitude and mindset helped him become the leader he is as well. His grit and determination were contagious as well and made people want to be even better. He is also an outstanding leader in the communities he is apart of. When hurricane Harvey devastated Houston in 2017, JJ acted fast. He asked for donations for the relief efforts. Watt said he didn't even know if they were going to hit the 200,000-dollar mark. Then they hit 1 million, 5 million, 15 million then finally a whopping 37 million dollars. His simple decision to act because people needed help is the reason he is the outstanding leader he is. Because of one simple video he led by example and didn't just wait around for someone else to lead. He stepped up because that's what leaders do, step up when no one else does.

  • Tristan Jernigan

https://youtu.be/GE0UAdxPTc0?si=ZW4KWFO2hbFW45tO My name is Tristan Jernigan and the leader I chose was Kobe Bryant. I chose Kobe Bryant because he was a leader in all aspects of life, from being one of the best basketball players to ever play in the National Basketball League. Also being a motivator and lead his team to several national championships, playoff appearances and many other things. Kobe has motivated me throughout my whole entire life to become the best in every aspect of my life. No matter how the odds are stacked against you. Or if you are at the top of your craft or career, never get complacent. Studying and watching Kobe was a part of the success I have today. The hunger and drive I had to go to the extreme and to do whatever it took to be successful, helped propel me to be successful in no matter what I was doing.

I chose him because he is a great role model for his dedication to helping children and his community. He consistently encourages fellow athletes to share their opinions and stand up for themselves. As well as being a devout family man, he is renowned for being a leader in his community, always willing to take a stand against social injustice. He also created the “I PROMISE” school, which gives underprivileged kids the opportunity to succeed in both academics and life. Beyond basketball, he uses his platform to inspire others to give back and stay true to their values. His work ethic shows that greatness comes from both talent and discipline. Overall, LeBron represents the kind of leader I admire—someone who uses success to uplift others.

  • Raeleigh Strickland

My name is Raeleigh Strickland. The leader I have chosen, and think has had an awesome effect on my life and others, is Taylor Swift. Taylor has not only been a role model for many people over her 20-year career. She has faced critics, public scrutiny, and industry setbacks, yet she has never stopped staying true to herself. Taylor also leads by example; she has shown artists that it is okay to fight for the right to their own music, that changing genre is okay, and that it is okay to use your platform to advocate for what you think is politically right. This shows that she is committed to her career as an artist, but also as someone who has an influence on other people. Another quality that makes her a leader is her authenticity. Being as large as a star as Taylor Swift would make you think that they would be snarky and stuck up (such as artists like Kanye West and Chari XCX), but her commitment to staying authentic with her fans by being honest and vulnerable through storytelling. This has inspired millions to embrace their true self. She has also demonstrated vision and strategic thinking by re-recording her work to have full ownership of it. Taylor Swift is an effective leader because she is the embodiment of perseverance, creativity, and advocacy while also uplifting those around her.

  • Samantha Fiore

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwpTj_Z9v-c
Hi my name is Samantha Fiore. The leader I have chosen is Herb Brooks. He was the coach of the 1980 United States Men's Olympic Hockey team. This team of young college athletes went on to beat the dominant Soviet Union for the gold medal. Herb Brooks is the epitome of a leader and role model. He managed to form a remarkable team from a group of athletes who had no prior experience playing together. He spent months training the team off and on ice to help build chemistry and connections. He pushed those men to be the best version of themselves. He is determined, strong – minded, and confident in him and his coaching decisions. The clip above shows Herb Brooks giving his team a very notable speech during a crucial moment in the Olympics. This speech is so motivating and truly shows how great of a leader he was.

  • Sully Wilson

My name is Sully Wilson. The leader that I chose for this assignment is Dan Campbell. Dan is the current Head Coach for the Detroit Lions football team. If you had no idea who Dan Campbell was, and you went up to any person in the city of Detroit and asked about him, I guarantee every single one of them would call him the definition of a leader. Dan's most consistent coaching points are grit, hard work, and determination. He instills a culture of "never giving up" not only in his locker room but for the city of Detroit as a whole. Coach Campbell took on the task of coaching the dumpster fire 5-11 Lions and, within a couple of seasons, turned them into a juggernaut football team. Not only does he have a great coaching point of determination, but he also has proven that he practices what he preaches by turning around an entire sports organization. That aspect alone makes every single one of his players want to run through a brick wall for him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ng8TV6buqqM

  • Charlotte Collins

My name is Charlotte Collins. The leader I chose for this assignment is Gregg Popovich, who is the former head coach for the San Antonio Spurs. I chose this clip because it includes authentic testimonies from athletes, coaches, and other prominent figures in the NBA attesting to the type of leader Gregg Popovich is. Instead of focusing on wins or strategy, the video highlights just how good of a leader he is through respect, trust, and accountability. I feel this clip is an accurate representation of his leadership because it shows how others perceive him, which is an effective means of recognizing a person's leadership ability. A few traits Pop possesses which make him such an effective leader are his empathy, honesty, and ability to balance discipline with care. He not only leads, but transforms others into leaders themselves, which is highlighted in the clip by Steve Kerr and Becky Hammon. Pop's leadership shows that being a leader is about more than your accomplishments–it is also about empowering those you lead and cultivating and environment that allows everyone to succeed. https://youtu.be/SLJTFIrdwRY

  • Bennett Anglin

    My name is Bennett Anglin.
I chose this clip because this video showcases someone in a position that I hope to be in one day sharing her wisdom and leadership in a powerful way. Kara Lawson spoke the words, "Handle Hard Better." I saw this clip at a PGC basketball camp, and it has resonated with me since. The first quality that she showcases in this video is that she is very passionate. As an aspiring coach, if you are not passionate about the game and the work that it entails to be the best, then you will have zero drive. To me this showcases what she talks about to a T, because the more passionate you are about the grind, the easier and more efficiently you will be able to attack the hard things in basketball and in life. The other quality that she showcases not only in this video, but in her career, is to have a vision. Her vision is pronounced in this video as she wants her team to dive into and embrace the hard things and come out the other side ready to win basketball games. Kara Lawson is a great mind and great leader, and I can only hope to lead a program as well as her one day. https://youtu.be/oDzfZOfNki4?feature=shared

  • Matthew Almand

    This is Matthew Almand.

The leader I chose was Nick Saban, who many would argue is the greatest college football coach of all time. He holds a record seven national championships (one at LSU, six at Alabama) and 12 conference championships. He has been the head coach for four Heisman Trophy winners, and an astonishing 52 NFL first round draft picks.

Nick Saban does not give speeches like this to the press very often, and was actually known to have not been the biggest fan of the press or addressing them. However, in November of 2023, just a few months before he retired from coaching, he gave this lecture to the press.

As the title says, Saban talks about the importance of nothing. He asks questions throughout the speech, which he answers himself. The overarching theme is that you are entitled to nothing. One of the most powerful questions he asks, in my opinion, is when he says, "You can have talent, but if you don't have discipline, and you don't execute, and you don't focus, what do you get?". I believe that this speech was the perfect example of Saban's philosophy on work ethic, as it is apparent that he is a big believer in the fact that you have to earn everything you will get, and not just in football.

  • Reid Millhollon

    https://youtu.be/BWf-eARnf6U?si=vFFRx0Q8y_SOzXnF
    My name is Reid Millhollon,
I chose Michael Jackson’s *Heal the World* music video because it powerfully showcases his leadership in inspiring global change and unity through his humanitarian vision. Released in 1992 as part of the Dangerous album, the video features children from diverse backgrounds and imagery of peace, contrasting with scenes of war and suffering, to promote a message of hope and collective responsibility. This clip motivates me because it reflects Jackson’s ability to use his platform to address pressing global issues like poverty, conflict, and inequality, encouraging viewers to take action. His leadership is evident in founding the Heal the World Foundation in 1992, which supported children’s welfare and disaster relief, including airlifting 46 tons of supplies to Sarajevo. Jackson’s philanthropy extended to donating over $500 million to 39 charities, earning him a Guinness World Record in 2000 for the most charities supported by a pop star. He also organized events like the 1999 Michael Jackson and Friends concerts, raising funds for organizations like the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund and the Red Cross. His hands-on approach, such as visiting hospitals and orphanages worldwide to support sick and underprivileged children, demonstrates his empathetic and servant leadership style. Jackson’s ability to unite artists for projects like We Are the World, which raised millions for African famine relief, further highlights his collaborative leadership. His vision, compassion, and dedication to improving lives make him an effective leader who inspired millions to care for others. By choosing this video, I celebrate Jackson’s legacy as a leader who not only created art but also drove tangible global impact through his humanitarian efforts.

  • Anthony Garcia

    I am Anthony Garcia

I’d say that David Goggins is the best example of a leader who has a very tough and strong mindset. Goggins is a Navy SEAL who has since retired, an ultramarathon runner, and a motivational speaker who has lived through extreme situations such as being abused when he was a child, living in rags, and suffering from poor health. Part of the reason he is such a charismatic leader is due to his never-give-up attitude, and thus being able to go beyond the limits that most people say are impossible. This guy is absolutely pure in essence and is also completely disciplined. He gets people to come closer to him because of the fact that he is real; he doesn’t cover up his downfalls and failures, and that is the reason his success is so great. I find his words to be very motivating as they can be used in sports, academics, and life as a whole. In this clip, his words reflect discipline, urging us to elevate standards beyond ordinary limits. The hardest fights are within, and real leaders like Goggins inspire others to triumph by living what they preach.

  • Chase Legarde

    My name is Chase Legarde.
One of my favorite leaders of all time is JJ Watt. I say this because Watt was always doubted ever since high school. He was told since he started playing football that he would never make it. He was called to small, weak and slow. But JJ Watt always kept working harder and harder. Once he made the NFL he became a great teammate and leader brining the Houston Texans to their first playoff game and win. He lead and motivated his teammates to become better and work together as a team. He also lead the city of Houston after hurricane Harvey by raising hundreds of thousands of dollars. So not only was he a leader for Houston on the field but also off the field and that is why he is one of my favorite leaders ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQSooD2yrNM

  • Jason Arnold

    This is Jason Arnold.

I chose Sean McVay for this assignment because he is a great coach and an amazing leader. I chose this specific clip because McVay is very well spoken about his team and he takes responsibility for his team’s poor performance. He goes on to say that he coached his team too “result-oriented” which led to some losses. It takes a real leader to acknowledge this fault and be willing to fix your mistakes. McVay also says he likes to communicate with his players so he better understands them so he can lead a well-bonded team. McCay also has an unreal IQ knowledge of his plays and playbook that allows him to lead his football squad so efficiently.

McVay was the youngest head coach when he got hired, for him to have such leadership at a young age is really impressive. McVay has led his team to two superbowl appearances and one win in only eight seasons as head coach. McVay is a naturally born leader and I am excited for what the Rams will do this season.

  • Jackson Carey

    This is Jackson Carey

I have chosen Ray Lewis for this assignment as I like to consider him as one of, if not the best leader in all of sports. Ray Lewis was not only a standout leader on the football field, but he was a leader in his community, and for all under privileged kids around the world. I chose his Hall of Fame Speech as my clip because like everything else Ray did, it showed his raw emotions. The way he is able to share personal stories of hardship and how he overcame it is truly inspiring. Ray was also the heart of the Ravens when he was on the team, with having the whole team look up to him. In his speech and his on-field dialogue, Ray always pushes for action, saying there is no time to wait. By combining emotion, conviction, and purpose, Ray demonstrates leadership that inspires, empowers and pushes others toward greatness. All in all, I think Ray was an incredible leader on and off the field, leaving a legacy that will be remembered forever.

  • Ross Prokop

    The Hardest Worker
    My name is Ross Prokop,
I chose Greg Plitt for this assignment because he is an extremely good motivational speaker. Plitt was a very well known fitness actor and model who got his start as an army ranger and graduated from West Point. He reminds you that success starts with relentless effort, mental toughness, and owning yourself. I chose this clip specifically because it perfectly embodies who Greg was as a person. He preaches accountability, holding his audience to a high standard. Along with this, he is unapologetically clear in his messages, he doesn't sugar coat everything like our current society likes to do. He presents the truth and what it actually takes to succeed in anything that you truly want to do in life. Plitt was a great role model for many young men and he can still be seen in many motivational videos till this day, highlighting his significance to his followers.

  • Audrey Faulk

My name is Audrey Faulk. One leader I find motivating is professional surfer Bethany Hamilton. She is passionate about inspiring people to make the most of every situation, even when facing challenges. Bethany was in a traumatic shark attack, which led to her losing her arm, but with perseverance, she continued to do what she loved and inspires others to do the same. One thing I admire about her leadership style is how she faces challenges. She reminds people to give themselves grace when life throws them curveballs, to allow themselves to regroup, get organized, and make a plan. Some of her best advice is to make time for your passions, get support from those around you in hard times, expect to face different hurdles throughout your life, maintain a bigger perspective, and always find things to be thankful for. She emphasizes the importance of gratitude, which I find motivating. She encourages people to find the good in every situation and do things that bring them joy. Bethany Hamilton

  • Connor Simpson

    https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxdSXwsgvDGYlx70JOpv2dk13Coq8SWfpa?si=4R0gft95tIIRXfkH

The clip I chose is a response in a press conference from the then Head Football Coach of the University of Alabama, Nick Saban. I have found many of his speeches motivating and speaking of the truths of this world. I think that coach Saban led his team in a very disciplined way and very much a leader-by-example approach. In this particular speech, coach Saban points out that any given person can be bad, average, good, excellent, or elite in any given situation, but it is up to their choice. A choice by that person to pursue each level. To be excellent or elite at something requires something special, he says. A special commitment, special drive, and a special focus, among other things, to be at that high level of performance. This speech was motivating as an athlete, but then hearing it again now as a college student, it is still motivating. This is not sport-specific advice but life advice that he is giving.

  • Mya Perez

    https://youtu.be/1Mc0fX9LSp0?feature=shared
Hi, my name is Mya Perez and the leader I picked is Trisha Ford. I chose this video clip of Trisha Ford, the head softball coach at Texas A&M, because she is someone I deeply admire and look up to as a leader. As a softball player for Coach Ford, I’ve had the chance to see firsthand what makes her such an effective and inspiring coach. She came into a program that needed rebuilding and completely transformed it from the ground up. Her vision, work ethic, and belief in her players are unmatched. One of the main reasons I look up to Coach Ford is because of how she builds strong relationships with her team. She knows how to push us to be our best while also showing she genuinely cares about us as people. Her attention to detail, discipline, and drive to win make her someone you want to follow, both on and off the field. She holds high standards but always leads by example, showing what it means to be dedicated, focused, and passionate.

  • Jaelyn

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBuIGBCF9jc&utm_source=chatgpt.com Howdy! My name is jaelyn and I chose Admiral William H. McRaven’s “Make Your Bed” commencement speech because it delivers simple yet powerful lessons on leadership and perseverance. McRaven emphasizes that true leadership begins with small, consistent actions such as making your bed each morning, which builds discipline, responsibility, and momentum for tackling larger challenges. His words are motivating because they are grounded in real-life experience, reflecting his years of service as a Navy SEAL, and he communicates them in a clear, direct, and relatable way. What makes him an effective leader, is his ability to connect everyday habits to bigger life goals, showing that leadership isn’t about titles or authority but about resilience, teamwork, and inspiring others to never give up. This message resonates because it balances emotional encouragement with practical action, leaving listeners empowered to lead with purpose. His speech also highlights the importance of perseverance in the face of failure, reminding us that setbacks are part of growth and not the end of the journey. Additionally, McRaven stresses the value of courage and unity, teaching that leaders must be willing to stand up for what is right while also supporting those around them. These qualities make his message timeless and applicable to anyone striving to make a positive impact.

  • Maddie Jones

    https://youtu.be/QF8FbfpIkWI
    This is Maddie Jones.

I chose this clip because it does a great job capturing Usain Bolt’s champion mindset. Usain Bolt is considered by many to be the greatest track and field athlete of all time, competing at three consecutive Olympics and boasting a total of eight Olympic gold medals. Bolt is confident, disciplined, charismatic, and resilient- making him a highly effective leader. Usain Bolt quickly became the face of track and field and brought attention to a sport that often gets overlooked. People look up to Bolt because he works hard and succeeds with such poise. I’ve never seen Usain Bolt nervous before a race, but instead calm and confident. Bolt is also quick to remind people that although what he does may look easy, all the work is done behind the scenes. Usain Bolt always gave his best in every race, inspiring others to push their limits and believe in themselves.

  • Nicole Khirin

My name is Nicole Khirin. I chose Novak Djokovic because he shows what leadership looks like under pressure. He grew up in Serbia during difficult years and kept training even with limited resources and constant uncertainty. Those early hardships built his toughness and humility, and you can see it in how he competes and treats people. On court he leads by example, calm in big moments, relentless in preparation, and honest about his emotions when things don’t go his way. Off the court he serves others through his foundation and mentors younger players, which shows that real leadership is about lifting people up. He also has a growth mindset; he is always learning, adjusting his game, and coming back stronger after injuries instead of relying only on talent. His communication is clear and direct, and he takes responsibility for his choices, which builds trust with coaches, teammates, and fans. Despite where he started, he has become widely considered one of the greatest of all time, proving that consistent habits and belief can beat circumstance. For me, Djokovic is inspiring because he turns adversity into fuel and shows that resilience, discipline, and care for others are what make an effective leader. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHbCU7m3lpg

  • Hayden Tillery

    https://youtube.com/shorts/WuZ6BCoPjRI?si=YaRX4u5zQh8c_mgV
My name is Hayden Tillery. I chose this video because I believe that Oregon's Head Football Coach Dan Lanning is one of the best leaders in all of sports. Coach Lanning exemplifies what it is like to work from the bottom to the top which I think is very respectable. He started his career coaching at a high school in Missouri. After a few years of working at the high school level he drove thirteen hours to a coaching conference to meet with coaches on the staff at the University of Pittsburgh where he got a job as a graduate assistant. He then jumped around to seven different jobs in the span of about ten years to get to where he is now. Lanning is considered to be one of the best coaches in all of college football due to his success in the regular season every year since he has been at Oregon. In listening to interviews of his and following his career for the last couple of years I have found that he is just authentic to who he is and does not change for anyone. He is firey but also very well spoken and is very motivational when giving his team speeches.

  • Brayden Hand

https://youtu.be/AuU05hX5sak?si=b1LPwwIDEAx75h4h Hi, my name is Brayden Hand and the effective leader I have chosen is Bruce Bochy. In the video you can see Bochy expects to win regardless of what team is displayed on the field. He is a multiple time World Series manager for the San Francisco Giants. Later in his managing career he decided to come out of retirement to manage the Texas Rangers. Bochy would end up leading the Rangers to their first ever championship title. This is not only significant for the players, but having a manager with the leadership qualities to transform a 68 win team from the season before is just unheard of. Bochy is known for having clear and direct communication and he is well respected by his peers. In the game of baseball he will be remembered as one of the most effective leaders that the game has ever seen.

  • Kendall leos

My name is Kendall Leos. The leader I chose was the famous, Johnny Manziel. I chose the clip Johnny Manziel Redefined: Fame, Football, and Finding New Purpose by Michael Vilardo because it showed a very different side of Johnny Manziel than what the media usually focuses on. Instead of only talking about his fame or the controversies in his career, this podcast highlighted his personal growth and his efforts to redefine his purpose beyond football. I found it powerful that Manziel spoke openly about his struggles and the lessons he has taken from them, because vulnerability is not often associated with leadership, but is an essential quality. His ability to reflect honestly on mistakes and use them as a way to connect with others demonstrates resilience, humility, and emotional intelligence. These are qualities that make him an effective leader, not just in sports but in life.
Manziel also showed the importance of adaptability—he had to shift from being defined solely by football to creating a new identity and purpose. Leaders who can adapt and reinvent themselves often inspire others to do the same. Another quality that stood out was his authenticity; he did not try to hide the lows of his journey but instead embraced them as part of who he is. Authentic leaders often gain trust because people see them as real and relatable. Finally, his willingness to use his platform to discuss finding purpose beyond fame demonstrates vision, another critical leadership trait. Taken together, Johnny Manziel indicates that leadership is not about being perfect—it’s about learning, growing, and helping others through your experiences.

  • Ryken Autry

    https://youtu.be/BYs6lHbmbx4?feature=shared
Hi, my name is Ryken Autry. For this assignment, I chose a clip of Nick Saban. Nick Saban is one of the most respected and decorated coaches to ever exist. I chose this clip because of the message he was trying to give. He mentions how the most important aspect of being successful is that we must have a winning mindset. He mentions that in order to make ideas, or dreams, become a reality we must be able to have a vision of what we want to accomplish. If we can see our goals and aspirations, then we can plan out steps to reach those goals or aspirations. Planning is another important aspect he talks about. He alluded to Michael Johnson, former 200m Gold Medal winner, by saying that he had put 1,000 hours towards the 200m race. In doing so, he was able to layout a blueprint that would later lead him to gold. So, after all the years of watching Nick Saban coach, and now seeing him give speeches like this, it is easy to see why he was as successful as he was for so long. He has a consistent mindset that allows him continue to take steps for his teams, and now for himself, towards greatness.

  • Grant Lents

My name is Grant Lents, and I chose Dak Prescott as my example of an effective leader. He is an effective leader because he leads with care for his teammates. In interviews, he consistently lifts his peers up and never puts blame on anyone other than himself, which boosts team chemistry. Dak also shows his authenticity and emotional strength at every chance he gets. With his mother passing and his brother's suicide, he was still able to hold strong and commit to his team and not let them down. Another example of his emotional strength is when he won the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2023. While he was being presented this award right before the Chiefs and the Eagles faced off, he was booed by what seemed like the entire stadium. Instead of doing anything obscene, he just smiled through it and took it as motivation. Another factor is how he is always in the spotlight and able to take the slander. • Hannah Rietz

https://youtu.be/kiPSooYHJL8 Howdy! My name is Hannah Rietz, and for this assignment, the leader I chose was Riley Gaines Barker. Riley Gaines was an American swimmer who competed against a transgender athlete. Riley stands to protect Title 9 and women's sports. I chose Riley Gaines because she has made great improvements for women's sports. I also chose this clip specifically because she voices how she once apologized for standing up for what she believes is right, and how she never should have apologized. I believe that being able to see one's mistakes, learn from them, and use them as examples to others are qualities of a great leader. Riley has been standing up for women's sports in a way unlike any other. Aiming to protect female athletes from being displaced by male athletes. Riley is an incredible leader. Her courage, resilience, and drive to stand up for what she believes in are only a select few of her best qualities. Politics aside, women's sports need to be protected and fought for, and that is just what Riley is doing. She is not afraid to lead a movement in what some would call dangerous political waters, because she knows a brave leader is just what women's sports needs.

  • Tomz, Elliott

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFLvoTKCaKs My name is Elliott Tomz, I chose Peyton Manning's retirement speech as an effective demonstration of his leadership. Peyton was the first-born son of College and NFL football legend Archie Manning. He was already bearing the cross of constant pressure to live up to the expectations others had of him because of his father. Manning committed to Tennesse instead of Ole Miss (his father's alma mater), much to the chagrin of Ole Miss fans, proving he was willing to create his own path. He was drafted number one overall to the Indianapolis Colts in 1998 and quickly turned them from the worst teams in the league to Super Bowl contenders for much of his career with the colts, even winning 4 MVPs with the colts and a Super Bowl. Even through his legacy with the colts he was still released in favor of the colts drafting Andrew Luck, Manning could've given up, I mean he'd already solidified himself as a first ballot hall of famer. But Manning chose to sign with the Denver Broncos, winning yet another MVP and a Super Bowl. Manning was always known for his football IQ and ability to read and dissect defenses, but his true strength was his mental fortitude as a competitor and a leader. Everyone on the team looked up to Manning for the way he handled himself as a true professional. Beyond the field, he maintained a spotless reputation, avoided any scandals, and remained a dedicated Christian family man. Manning was obviously one of the greatest players to ever pick up a football but his true legacy as a leader is defined as much more. A true leader makes everyone around them better; Manning made his teammates and coaches better. He created strong bonds with the fans and cities of both Indianaoplis and Denver. Manning has proved that he is not a product of a fortunate situation but rather a testament to mental strength and belief in oneself. Peyton Manning is who I think of when I see the word leader.

  • Tanner Schmidt

My name is Tanner Schmidt and the leader I chose is Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs is an inspiring story as he was a college drop out who created the Mac computer and the Apple brand. The clip I chose of him was from his 2005 Stanford Commencement address as he talks about how he got to where he was. He mentioned that all of the dots in life eventually connect. The story was because he took a calligraphy class and used these thought to be useless but fascinating notes when creating his Mac. He got fired from Apple but still looked for a new thing to do and created Pixar. His final advise was to only do things that day if it was your last and he started to do this when he was diagnosed with cancer. Steve Jobs has many traits of a leader which are that he has a clear vision, he has a passion, he is innovative, and he has a drive to complete all of his goals. Steve Jobs Speech

  • Collin Rodgers

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-qodBTlMtA
My name is Collin Rodgers, and for this assignment I chose Tim Tebow. Throughout his career, Tebow's passion and conviction have made him a great leader. In this halftime speech he made during the national championship, he channels his passion and looks to push his teammates to be the best they can be for the biggest half of football of the season. He also makes a promise to his team, holding himself accountable for his famous 'promise speech' made after a loss to Ole Miss earlier in the year. Tim Tebow is a great example of how to be yourself as a leader, as he never tried to hide his religious beliefs during his playing career. Though he went through many obstacles, his faith has always been apparent and unwavering. Along with being a great leader on the football field, winning a National Championship and Heisman as Florida's starting quarterback, he has led in the community as well, heading organizations like the Tim Tebow Foundation and Night to Shine. Even after his playing career is over, Tim Tebow continues to make a difference and showcase how to be a great leader.

  • Raiyan Riaz

Lionel Messi 2021 Copa America Final Speech
My name is Raiyan Riaz, and the leader I chose is Lionel Messi. The clip I chose is of Messi speaking to his fellow Argentine teammates before the 2021 Copa America Final against Brazil. I chose this clip because Messi is typically described/seen as a quiet, humble, and emotional leader. He doesn’t lead in the sense of being loud or fiery during his speeches, but rather connecting on an emotional level, particularly after losing multiple Copa America Finals and the 2014 World Cup Final. In the clip, Messi is talking to his teammates, describing how for the past 45 days, they had been away from their families, their normal way of life, being in a COVID environment, and doing it all for Argentina and bringing the Copa America trophy home. He connected with different teammates in various ways, discussing how some players had to miss their children's births during the tournament and not be able to see them, while others were unable to see their partners. However, he noted that it would all be worth it if they could beat Brazil. I really like this clip because Messi stepped out of his typical comfort zone of being a leader and became very proactive and spoke with a gravitas that made each and every one of his teammates hang onto every word he said. He motivated his teammates to go and win a trophy Argentina had not won since 1993, and to remind them that all the sacrifices they went through would be worth it. Messi might typically come off as humble and quiet, but the way he stepped up during this speech and spoke with passion will always stand out to me.

  • Will Harris

    https://youtu.be/dTRBnHtHehQ?si=b9OtkwSaEw6XFpah
My Name is Will Harris and the leader that I chose today is Kobe Bryant. Kobe is someone who is known globally for his mindset, mentality, and his leadership. Kobe is one who always wanted to lead by example by outworking others. Kobe made it a point to work while others relaxed. No one was willing to outwork him which is a leadership tactic demonstrating that effort sets the bar. This is a quality that makes him an effective leader as he wants to show those looking up to him what it takes to be great, and how to better those around you. Kobe also lead by preparation, whether is was mastering his shot, watching film, or working on his fundamentals. Looking at someone who we view as one of the greatest, you don't realize the time and commitment he puts in to the little things. These qualities are things that all can look up to and it doesn't have to relate to basketball. No matter what it is you are trying to be a leader within, it takes hard work and preparation to become a leader in the first place.

  • Shea Stone

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Neoih-gRdbU My name is Shea Stone, and I chose this motivational clip from the iconic movie Remember the Titans. This scene showcases Coach Boone hyping his team up during a tough moment, urging them to give their everything and not let anything stop them. This clip is very motivational because Boone stands up for equality and pushes for his players to work together and never give up. Coach Boone is a strong leader because he is consistent, fair, and always encourages his team to give their full effort. He creates trust by treating everyone with respect and expecting the same from his players. He also shows a clear vision to help his team overcome their differences. He motivates his players to believe in themselves. It is Boone’s leadership that brings the team together. His attitude and determination inspired the team to remember the importance of what they achieve!

  • jaditza gutierrez

    https://youtu.be/Y2Z8daEd5ms?si=iGF8lWX2hQQl8If8
I chose this video because it exemplifies leadership with empathy and unity. This speech captured the heart of his mission, in which he was worked so hard over the past decade to create a global platform for healing for the wounded and injured. He emphasizes that the strength that we see in veterans was built, not given. In a position of leadership, he reframes this narrative in an effective way. He talks about unity across nations, and respect throughout all of them. Prince Harry leads with authenticity, and he shares stories about his commitment to these athletes journeys. This video reminds me that powerful leadership does not always have to come from authority. This speech stands on human connection, a struggle that's shared, and belief in others potential and that's what it is all about.

  • Annabel Poduska

https://youtu.be/tdmyoMe4iHM?si=el_vFUKo-4I0p9_1 My name is Annabel Poduska, and I chose Herb Brooks speech to the USA Hockey team before they defeated the Soviet Union in 1980. This clip is just from a movie, but this speech is real, and it's the reason for the USA's turnaround in the Winter Olympics. Herb can be considered an autocratic leader. Autocratic leadership is where a leader has control, gives intense discipline, and has a visionary focus. He has one vision for success for the team, which is why he can come off "harsh" in the clip. This speech to his team was a calculated confrontation, which motivated and hyped the team up right when they needed it. Herb created a sense of unity with his team after his locker room speech, which ultimately led to their 4-3 win right after. Coach Brooks, being an autocratic leader, was effective for the US Olympic Ice Hockey team. He took a lack of established talent and young players in a short period of time and helped them become the team to complete a "Miracle on Ice."

  • Luke Law

https://youtu.be/wQSooD2yrNM?si=UdGY6jBQLiTPSyLK My name is Luke Law.
One of my favorite players and leaders of all time is JJ Watt. Watt was always disrespected since his high school days. He was under recruited and disrespected as a prospect before committing to Wisconsin. Even after having a stellar college career at Wisconsin and becoming the 11th overall pick in the NFL Draft people still disrespected Watt. They labeled him as too slow, not explosive, etc. He worked to become great and though a short-lived prime Watt is arguably one of the best defensive lineman of all time. Watt was a terrific leader and a positive member in the locker rooms he played in. Leading by example with tremendous passion and work ethic. Additionally, Watt’s contributions to the communities he has been a part of has been tremendous. Often raising money and rallying communities together in difficult times.

  • Carlos Tamez

My name is Carlos tamez, I chose Tiger Woods because he has been an effective leader in the world of golf through both his performance and his influence on others. He showed leadership by transforming the sport with his work ethic, discipline, and commitment to excellence. His success inspired a new generation of golfers, many of whom credit him with motivating them to pursue the game more seriously. Woods also demonstrated resilience, leading by example as he overcame injuries and personal setbacks to return to competition. He set a standard for preparation and mental toughness that others in the sport strive to follow. His presence on the course elevated the intensity of tournaments, pushing competitors to perform at their best. Beyond his play, Woods contributed to the growth of golf worldwide by attracting new fans and increasing the visibility of the sport. Through his influence, Tiger Woods has led not only with his victories but also with the legacy he created for the game.

  • MaryKatherine Kloesel

Howdy, my name is MaryKatherine Kloesel.

The video I chose of a leader that you find motivating is Michael Jordan’s Obsession Beats Talent speech. The first key moment that stuck out to me in this video is when he says, “I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed. The quality of turning failure into strength and pain into motivation is one that we can all learn from since you can never avoid failure and pain.
Michael Jordan says he hates losing but respects it because it is a part of winning. Losing is going to hurt and that helps you look at what you have to change, what to do differently and how you can make your team better. You can’t get to the top and be a winner without losing at some point, not just in basketball but in work life too.
Even with all his success, Jordan says he doesn’t stay complacent and still feels like he always has something to prove not just as a player but as a father and role model. This shows his character not just caring about basketball and the many championships, accomplishments, and accolades he’s won on the court but how to bring his leadership into his home life with his family. This shows how Jordan is an effective leader that we can look up to. He knew that basketball wasn’t his whole life and when the time would come, he would hang up the sneakers and still have purpose in life.

  • Becker Wright

    https://youtu.be/d-qodBTlMtA?feature=shared

My name is Becker Wright and the leader I decided to show was Tim Tebow. This speech is his halftime speech during the national championship game against Oklahoma. He was the quarterback for Florida and is known to be one of the best college quarterbacks of all time. He has always been known for his exceptional leadership skills, and this speech is his most famous. He is rallying his team around him, letting them know that these next 30 minutes of the game will change the course of their entire lives. He did an amazing job highlighting the importance of the game and his team seemed to really take it to heart. Florida went on to win 24-14 and I think that is in large part because of Tim Tebow. I think about this clip often because it showed how small this next half was but how impactful it is for their team and how they will look back at this game throughout their whole lives.

  • Taylor Barnett

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmyZMtPVodo
    My name is Taylor Barnett.

The leader I've chosen is Simon Sinek. Sinek is an author and businessman known for his practices within the workplace. Last semester, I took a digital marketing for tourism class and my professor was obsessed with Sinek. So much so, he showed us this video on the day he called "Simon Day." I think his obsession is justified– I really admire the way Sinek goes about management and the leadership traits he prioritizes within the workplace. He focuses on creating a trustworthy environment and ensuring that all of his employees feel safe under his leadership, something that I feel some leaders tend to overlook. Having a team that's not only comfortable but cooperative is imperative when it comes to success. If an employee feels uneasy or un-welcomed within the workplace, the culture is immediately disrupted. Positive culture is so important when it comes to the workplace, so I think all leaders could take something from Sinek, whether it's this Ted Talk or one of his others.

  • Lucas Turner

My name is Lucas Turner. I have chosen to use a video of Drew Brees because he has always been one of my favorite players to watch on the field but also one of my favorite players to follow in life. He is a strong leader of both his team and family. He is a strong advocate for his faith while being a caring leader which is one of the reasons I have always admired him. This video is a compilation of some of his pregame huddle speeches. On top of being one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play football, he is also famous for these speeches before each game. These speeches serve as a great way to get his teammates' heads focused on the game and get them in that right mindset. These are just one of his examples of great leadership within the New Orleans locker room and on the field. https://youtu.be/kZvBE0lBHQQ?si=GPu-TE6TeQL6DzQb

    Raegan Martin- Effective Leader Assignment
    https://youtu.be/5SClmL43dTo?feature=shared
This is Malala Yousafzai. You may ask yourself if you don’t know her story why she is even relevant. Well Malala is the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize which she won for her activism in Pakistan. Malala throughout her childhood spoke against the Taliban who were forcing girls not to go to school. As a result of this activism they shot her multiple times, but by a complete miracle she is still alive today speaking on this issue. If anyone could be the definition of a leader I believe it would be her. The courageousness and bravery it took to speak out against the terrorist organization that is controlling your homeland so girls could get equal rights when it comes to education is what it means to be a leader. To me what she has done for girls of all ages all around the world is incredibly inspiring. She found something she is passionate about and spoke out about the lack of education and continues to try to make changes in the world. She is the best example of a leader.

  • Rueben Owens

https://youtu.be/06EoBwpOkfI?si=usA1fvZiT60FoHWM I chose Lebron because I feel he is a good leader not just on the court, not just to his kid, but to the world. He showed what it takes to be great he showed how a young African American man growing up with just his mom in a rural neighborhood and still made it out. Now he is the greatest basketball player ever part owns Nike has a son in the NBA with him on the same team, what father wouldn't want that. In the video he was basically saying you have to be the same person everyday like one day you can't be giving it your all then the next day not giving it your all you have to stay consistent. Also said it a lot of things that go into being a leader you can't lead when things are going bad you have to lead all the team. Your actions is also a big thing in leading if you are the leader your teammates, friends, etc. are going to follow you. So if you are doing bad things they will do bad things if your doing good things they will do good things. You also have to lead by example not just with your voice.
